We could probably spend all day analyzing every pick of the 2019 NBA Draft last night, but hey, it’s the first day of Summer and we know you just want the highlights. That being said, let’s look at some of the biggest winners and losers of last night!
Winner: New Orleans Pelicans.
They got Zion Williamson, need we say more? With their fancy trade work, they’ve also set themselves up with plenty of chances to find a brand new replacement for Anthony Davis… even though they got all the players in the world from the Lakers in THAT trade. You go, Pelicans!
Loser: Bol Bol.
Every year there is someone at EVERY major league draft that becomes “that guy.” You know, the one everyone is expecting to go early in the first round and is just left sitting there somewhere until pick No. 30 or so. Unfortunately, last night that guy was Bol Bol. Ultimately, he landed at No. 44 with the Miami Heat. At least he can get over the low draft position on the beautiful beaches of Miami, right?
Winner: Atlanta Hawks.
After making a deal with the Pelicans, Atlanta swooped in at No. 4 to pick up De’Andre Hunter, followed by Cam Reddish at No. 10. Sure, Reddish didn’t shine at Duke this year, but he’s got size and athleticism on his side.
Loser: Phoenix Suns.
As we mentioned previously, the Phoenix Suns had the 6th pick in the draft, which they traded away to Minnesota for the No. 11 pick and Dario Saric. Then they drafted Cameron Johnson, who has a history of hip injuries and was expected to go much lower in the draft. It’s okay Phoenix, everyone has to be a loser at some point in draft history.
Winner: Memphis Grizzlies.
Welcome to Memphis, Ja Morant! His new team is still in a rebuilding stage (the team went 55-109 the last two seasons), but he has some solid talent in Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clarke to help him along the way.
What do you think fans, do you agree? Or do you have your own separate list of winners and losers? Let us know!
